Brief summary of our teen's week 8 meeting

Our lesson came from I Samuel 17:21-51. David went before King Saul and told him that he would go and fight Goliath the giant which stood over nine feet tall. The king told David that he was only a kid and Goliath was had been a man of war since he was young. David told the king how a lion and a bear came to try to get one of the sheep that he was tending and how God had delivered him out of their paws. He also told the king that God would deliver him out of the hand of Goliath. The king told David to go and the Lord be with him. So David went to a brook and chose 5 smooth stones and placed them in his bag. He took the 5 smooth stones with his sling and went to meet Goliath. When Goliath saw David he mocked him because of his age. Goliath said am I like a dog that you have to come after me with sticks? He then cursed David by his gods. Goliath told him to come to him and he would feed him to the fowls of the air and the beasts of the field. In turn, David told Goliath, “Thou comest to me with a sword and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts..”. “And everyone would know that God did not deliver me with a sword and spear for the battle is the Lord’s and He will deliver you into my hands”. When Goliath came near to meet David, David took one of those smooth stones in his sling and shot him in the forehead and killed him.

We compared Goliath to the struggles that we have in our lives. They sometimes are so big that it seems there is no way God can make it better. We sometimes begin to lose our faith, but if God can kill a man that is over nine feet tall with only a sling and a smooth stone then He can take care of any problem or struggle that we face no matter how big or small.

We then compared David to us as Christians. David was young and a lot smaller than Goliath, but he had faith that God would deliver him. He knew that his God was much bigger than the giant that stood before him. That’s how we are supposed to be as Christians. We are supposed to have faith that God will deliver us because we know that God is bigger than any problem we will ever face.

The past several weeks we have been studying Daniel and his friends. David and Daniel had a lot of similarities about them.

1. They both trusted that God would deliver them from their circumstances.
2. Their faith in God never wavered.
3. They allowed God to be seen through their circumstances.
4. They praised God when He delivered them.

We all have things that we struggle with, but we should never face a struggle without God. After viewing the below video which depicts consequences 2 girls faced when making bad choices, we all took a pencil and a piece of paper and wrote the one thing that we struggled with on a regular basis that hindered our walk with God. One by one we took our paper and placed it on the cross which we had brought into the room. By placing these papers on the cross we were stating that we gave it to God and that we had faith in God to place it under the blood of His Son Jesus Christ. Once we finished this activity we looked over at the cross and realized that we could not see most of the pieces of paper that we had previously place on it. This symbolized to us that God had taken those struggles and hid them behind the cross. We praised God for being so good to us and taking our struggles and giving us a clean slate all because we asked Him to do so.
